SOUND AS MEDICINE
A one on one course in
Intuitive Voice And Medicinal Song
This course is designed to help you gain an in-depth understanding of sound as a modality whilst learning to use your voice as a healing tool. Sound as Medicine can be used as a compliment to existing therapies whilst also functioning independently as a powerful healing art. The voice is an extremely potent instrument, readily available to all of us, which with understanding and care can be used to support a vast deepening into life.
The Sound as Medicine course is facilitated by Purdie Wood who brings together her knowledge of Medicinal song, Shamanic and Inner journey facilitation, Body focused dialogue therapy, Release work and Intuitive voice techniques into a visceral learning experience. During the course you will be guided to journey deep within your own being to connect to your intuitive voice and find your own medicine song. Through this experience you will be gaining skills in the use of sound release, directive sound, invocation and empathic sound techniques. This course also looks at the efficacy of sound as medicine through delving into the basics of entrainment, psychoacoustics and sound based scientific theory.
The Sound as Medicine course is primarily taught through process based experiential learning techniques which are supported by supplied reading and listening material. Processes specific to each learning module are also given, to be completed alone or with a practice partner between each class. The course is comprised of six private two hour sessions which can be taken weekly or fortnightly in person or over the phone. The first six sessions equate to a Level 1, during which a broad range of techniques are explored. This gives the participant the opportunity to sense in which direction they would like to deepen their knowledge if Level 2 or 3 courses are to be undertaken. Being taught in a one on one setting allows for the course structure to be modified to suit the needs and interests of each individual participant and is appropriate for people at any level of experience.
Empathic Sound - can be used to access the wisdom and knowledge inherent within nature, journey into other realms, bring compassionate contact to clients and loved ones, open creative pathways.
Intuitive Voice - can be used to reunite fragmented parts of the self, weave a sound bridge between dimensions, access your innate body wisdom.
Sound Release - can be used to shift emotional stress out of the body, bring the nervous system into balance, strengthen and clear the energetic body.
Directive sound - can be used to fill the body with specific energies for the purpose of clearing, soothing, revitalising etc, to shift energetic blockage within the body or energetic field, to awaken and invigorate the cellular body, to awaken numb or dull spots and become more deeply grounded and present in the body.
Invocation - can be used to create energetic safety during therapeutic or ceremonial practice, create connection with the wisdom of supportive energies, strengthen relationship with allies and helpers, embody the energetic qualities of specific elements.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Purdie has a strong experiential connection to the Curanderismo (healing arts) of Peru, where she spent extensive periods of time living and training under a number of Curanderos (shamanic healers) in the Western desert and Amazon basin regions. During this time Purdie’s understanding of the healing powers of sound and her capacity to embody the traditional use of medicinal song (Icaro) were imparted through a deep engagement with a broad range of medicinal trees and plants.
As a director and co-founder of the Australian Sound Institute Purdie guides people to gain an in depth understanding of sound as a modality and to connect with their voice as a tool for self healing. She runs her private practice from the Northern Rivers where she teaches a range of one on one courses, offers therapeutic sessions and facilitates group classes in intuitive voice practices. She also co-facilitates the "Bridgeweavers", a not for profit community group, working with the therapeutic use of sound and voice to support and nurture those touched by the profound experiences connected to new life and death. Most recently Purdie has been co-producing immersive sound events such as "The Long Song - A journey in sound" and performing with the three piece musical ensemble "Cave In The Sky".
